Meet The Staff

You're in highly skilled hands with surgeons Trent Proehl, MD, and Jay Woodland, MD. Each of them brings more to the table than prowess with scalpels and sutures. Patients often remark on the personal touch that is the hallmark of OSF Saint James - John W. Albrecht Medical Center, praising the doctors' unsurpassed compassion and empathy.

These surgeons and the other members of our office team are committed to staying current with developments in general surgery, including laparoscopic "small incision" surgery, which allows you to benefit from advanced technology with far less pain and recovery time. With facilities located in Pontiac, Illinois, area residents can stay close to home and receive the best in surgical care.

Trent Proehl, MD

"There's nothing fancy about my upbringing or my background. My wife and I were raised by farmers and housewives and taught to do the right thing. For a surgeon, that means having a good bedside manner and taking the time to educate patients about their problems and the treatment. Knowing what to expect takes away a lot of fear and anxiety.

Patients at OSF Saint James have the best of both worlds: the surgeons, techniques and equipment to do big-city procedures... but the comfort and caring of a small town."

Jay Woodland, MD

"Why OSF Saint James? I wanted to come to a hospital where I could make an impact not only as a physician but as a member of the community. Why surgery? I've always liked being hands-on and seeing results. If someone is experiencing appendicitis or gall bladder pain, I can take care of it and make them feel better.

Patients can count on me to have their individual interests in mind. In my younger days as a competitive athlete, I learned what hard work and self-discipline could do. I would not be the person I am without that experience."

Leslie Romersberger, PA-C

"A medical mission to Ethiopia inspired my interest in surgery. I found the operating room awesome, the atmosphere exciting. Though I was a dietician, I decided I wanted to help people with more than their nutritional needs. After some additional education, I came to work as a physician assistant for the surgeons here.

I was impressed with their warm personalities and had researched the quality of their work, which was excellent. Besides assisting during surgery, I see patients before and after their operations. It's a wonderful hands-on job in which you get to see immediate results."
